First meeting of the NEWURBPACT Project Consortium Council

On 17 January 2019, in the seat of the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development, the first meeting of the Consortium Council of the project entitled New model of urbanisation in Poland ??? practical implementation of the principles of responsible urbanisation and compact city (NEWURBPACT) was held. The Consortium Council was established by the Project Partners on 27 December 2018 pursuant to the Consortium Contract concluded on 18 December 2017. The main task of the Council is to coordinate and supervise all matters related to the realisation of the NEWURBPACT project by the Consortium (including controlling the progress of realisation). Ms Anna Chyli??ska (Deputy Director of the Spatial Policy Department at the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development) was chosen as the Chair of the Consortium Council. The representatives of the Consortium Members were also appointed to the Council ??? as the representative of the Lazarski University prof. Igor Zachariasz (Head of the Chair of Administrative Sciences) and as the representative of the National Institute for Spatial Policy and Housing Mr ??ukasz Syka??a (Head of the Department of Local Development Management). The first Council meeting was also attended by: Ms Maria Szwa??ko (Director of the Spatial Policy Department at the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development), Project Leader ??? Dr Wojciech Jarczewski (Director of the National Institute for Spatial Policy and Housing) and Ms Paulina Repe??, who, on behalf of the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development, is responsible for contacting the National Centre for Research and Development.

The subject of the meeting was mainly the organisation of work of the Consortium Council and issues related to the management and monitoring of the project. At the same time, the participants discussed the key challenges for the spatial planning system in Poland ??? mainly in the context of the ongoing processes of suburbanisation (particularly urban sprawl) and urban shrinkage.

The Project entitled New model of urbanisation in Poland ??? practical implementation of the principles of responsible urbanisation and compact city (NEWURBPACT) is co-funded by the National Centre for Research and Development within the Strategic Research and Development Programme “Social and economic development of Poland in the conditions of globalising markets” ??? GOSPOSTRATEG.
